Cargo Movement Tracking

Cargo Movement Tracking

Customer Profile

Warehousing and Logistics Company. ATAI as a solution partner with a supply chain and logistics corporation, provided an evidence based end-to-end system for the cargo loading and unloading, automated gating, and live vehicle tracking.

Project description

The storing of goods in warehouses or yards is a necessary cost in the logistics industry. Artificial Intelligence can be used in warehouse or yard planning, stacking, and Ingress/Egress operations. This area requires the right use of humans and equipment to improve efficiency and optimize operations. AI is typically used to derive the most optimal warehouse or yard strategy based on the Ingress and Egress patterns. AI has been used to define the location of the goods in the warehouse shelf or container in the yard based on various parameters like FIFO or LIFO for warehouses or zoning or special stow requirements for the containers. Similarly, AI also considers the optimization of equipment usage while determining the location of the goods or containers in the warehouse or yards. This helps reduce the equipment usage cost per operation and it can go as high as 30-50% based on our practical experience. Coming to equipment usage optimization, AI can be used to assign jobs to the equipment based on various factors like its proximity, capability, and cost per usage parameters.

Problem Statement

The biggest issues in supply chain and logistics are improper loading, tracking of the vehicle, waiting time at the gate of a vehicle, and idle time during transit. All of this includes the creation and integration of multiple systems to work seamlessly providing real-time insights.

Computer vision-based AI systems can monitor the process of packaging the goods and the loading or stuffing process. It can provide real-time alerts when improper handling or exceptions are noticed. ATAI has implemented this system which also ensures good quality packages are loaded, guided order of loading and placement in the vehicle based on the order of the unloading point and nature of the package. It also tracks and manages the quantity loaded in real-time,  monitors the final covering or sealing process, and automatically interacts with the ERP system to update the inventory and create the required paperwork. In this process, it also provides an evidence-based status to  various stakeholders and authorities. AI plays a major role in just-in-time vehicle dispatching taking into consideration the route planning, traffic conditions, environmental conditions, regulatory conditions, external triggers  (ex: possessions, unusual traffic activity, etc.), and the readiness of the destination point.

This system enables the transportation of untampered goods with their respective valid information to the customer leaving out the damaged goods. The AI-enabled vehicle management system helps reduce the in-use idle time and improves utilization by up to 90% and 95% respectively. Similarly, AI is used in performing the vehicle survey and automatically gating in thus reducing the waiting time to near zero.
