Largest ICD in India, it is now an undisputed market leader having the largest network of 65 ICDs/CFSs in India (62 terminals and 3 strategic tie-ups). In addition to providing inland transport by rail for containers, it has also expanded to cover the management of Ports, air cargo complexes, and establishing cold-chain. It has and will continue to play the role of promoting containerization in India through its modern rail wagon fleet, customer-friendly commercial practices, and extensively used Information Technology. The company developed multimodal logistics support for India's International and Domestic containerization and trade. Though rail is the mainstay of our transportation plan, road services and also provided to cater to the need of door-to-door services, whether in the International or Domestic business.

Problem Statement

ICD has 350 acres of yard space 16 entry/exit gates for road movement, 4 rake lines, 5 RTG’s, 16 RST’s, 32 ITV’s, 28000 Sq. M.  of Warehouse for cargo stuffing, and de-stuffing. ICD handles, domestics, export/import, empty container handling along with Cargo loading/unloading within the yard. All the operations were predominantly handled by manual processes and very rudimentary TOS deployed in the 1990’s.

Solution

AI-powered ATGate(Automating the Gate entry/exit process), ATRail (Automating the Rail side entry/exit process), ATYard (Tracking every moment of the container within the yard by deploying sensors on every RST/RTG, providing real-time location of the container, the productivity of each RST/RTG, job scheduling and planning for RST/RTG), ATCargo (Tracking every loading/unloading activity of the container)and ATWarehouse (Tracking the space utilization at 1 Sq. M. granularity) and efficient integration into the TOS along with required process changes to benefit the automation by using the 7 step process called as “The AI Way”

Results

Complete digital transformation provided real-time visibility into the operations by using Digital Twin and achieved the required capacity enhancement of 1.6 times by optimizing operations with accurate information captured through sensors. This operational improvement also reduced the carbon footprint by 8 million tonnes per day.
